Effective fundraising requires strategic planning and buy-in from staff and volunteers. This course will provide the basics of best practices in nonprofit fundraising and development and will cover areas such as major donor development, solicitation techniques, donor-database management, event planning, seeking corporate support and grants, and much more. This course is ideal for executive directors, fundraising staff, major gifts officers, and volunteers.

Raising the profile of your nonprofit organization and telling your story requires strategy and planning. This course will provide training using a wide variety of tools including social media, websites, newsletters, e-mail marketing, and media advisories. Emphasis will be on branding and messaging in support of your organization's fundraising efforts and the latest trends. This course is ideal for executive directors, marketing and communications staff, and volunteers.

Nonprofit organizations of every size depend on grants to fund important initiatives designed to benefit the community. A good master proposal and planning will increase your chances of writing a winning proposal. Join us and learn the process of preparing strong grant application templates. This course is ideal for executive directors, program directors, board members, and freelance grant writers seeking to develop or refine their grant writing skills. You must purchase textbook(s)/materials and bring them to the first class.

Students will gain an understanding of how to use financial information in nonprofit organizational planning, implementation, control, reporting, and analysis. The course also examines specific legal and policy issues affecting nonprofits and the role of competent financial oversight in guiding organizations through uncertain financial climates. Students in this course will develop their spreadsheet skills by using Microsoft Excel to perform financial calculations and create financial documents. Although this course is number-oriented, the emphasis is more on the application of various analytical techniques. A simple familiarity with basic accounting terms is sufficient to excel in the course. This course is ideal for executive directors, finance managers, board members, grant writers, and program officers.

In the nonprofit sector, the professionals measuring the performance of the programs and evaluating the results are in high demand in multiple sectors such as health, education, law and governance, and human rights. Learn how to design and implement program evaluations in nonprofits. The modules that will be covered in this course are planning a program evaluation, data (collection strategy, quality measurement, matching stakeholder needs, analysis and interpretation, and reporting results), and data-driven decision-making. This course is ideal for executive directors, project managers, board members, grant writers, and program officers.

Montgomery College’s Nonprofit Leadership Boot Camp develops the competency of emerging leaders striving to create beneficial change for the people and the environment within, which we live. For participants who are either new to a leadership role or looking to expand their leadership confidence and competence, this seminar equips them with foundational leadership frameworks, skills, and strategies and gives them the space to apply that learning to their organizational and personal lives.

Our current experiences with a global pandemic and broad-scale social movements have amplified the need to deeply understand what it takes to create change and design organizational structures that have efficacy and can effectively adapt to rapidly, and at times dramatically, changing environments. This program introduces frameworks for outcomes-oriented planning and decision making that are used to explore the different management domains of governance, programming, finance, human resources, communications, and engagement, helping participants contribute to effective organizations and beneficial community change.

Nonprofit Leadership Boot Camp is a program committed to creating a thriving Montgomery County through advancing the leadership confidence, competence, and comfort of nonprofit professionals. In response to the current public health conditions, the program will be offered as an online seminar. The program consists of both self-paced content and weekly facilitated live (online) peer sessions over 12 weeks.

You must apply to be admitted to the Nonprofit Leadership Boot Camp.
