The Homer S. Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education (GITE)
Opened in 1992, the Homer S. Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education is a public-private joint venture. It has provided state-of-the-art technical education and training for more than twenty-five years. The Institute is named for the noted philanthropist and area developer Homer S. Gudelsky.
GITE is a facility offering instructional programs in four primary areas: Automotive Technology, Building and Construction Technology, Digital Fabrication and Workforce Technologies.
The Gudelsky Institute programs are a direct result of ongoing partnerships with local business and industry to identify and respond to the technical training needs of our community. The 55,000 square foot GITE facility houses instructional laboratories, classrooms, a conference center and faculty offices. The newest instructional laboratory at GITE is the Montgomery College Digital Fabrication Lab. This Maker Space/Fab Lab is a state-of-the-art facility that offers the community access to the latest technologies in digital fabrication.
The Gudelsky Institute offers both credit and noncredit courses. Many of the courses offered at GITE are co-listed. That means credit courses are also available through MC noncredit Workforce Development & Continuing Education (WDCE) program. Students pursuing a degree or certificate can register for credit. Students interested in enhancing their current skills or gaining personal knowledge can register noncredit.
GITE courses are taught via classroom instruction with practical, hands-on lab training. Options include both long-term and short-term training. On-site and off-site customized contract training is available. Program delivery options include short-term courses and workshops, and semester-long courses. An associate of applied science program is available, as well as certification preparation and certificate programs. We also offer customized contract training and continuing education courses. Programs run day and evening, weekdays and weekends, year-round. Apprenticeship training is also available. Degrees and Certificates
MC meets the training needs of the next generation of energy technicians with the development of an outdoor Alternative Energy Park. This is an outdoor laboratory for solar, wind, and electric car technologies. The park positions MC as a leader in renewable and sustainable energy technology training. It has been designed to showcase continuing advances in energy technologies and the rapid changes that define the industry.
The park offers students instruction in installation and service of the technologies in a realistic training environment. It also functions as a community resource for the demonstration of alternative energy technology. The park includes several types of solar technologies including photovoltaic and thermal systems, both residential and commercial. A small wind turbine introduces wind generator system technology. An electric car charged by both solar and conventional electricity is available. The park also helps promote both awareness of these systems and the benefits of a renewable and sustainable future.

Automotive Facilities and Labs:Automotive Technology is a hands-on, practical program with many donated motor vehicles for students to work on as they learn. The main, general purpose Automotive Lab (GU 165) contains multiple service bays and a wide variety of equipment. This large automotive lab is supplemented by smaller classrooms and labs.
Building Trades Facilities and Labs:Building Trades and Construction Technology is a hands-on practical program. It offers carpentry training facilities, a solar panel lab and labs for electrical wiring training and HVAC training. It also has has facilities for apartment maintenance training and residential repair & remodeling training. The program uses classrooms for background theory, test preparation and instructor demonstrations.
Fab Lab:The Montgomery College Fab Lab Maker Space is a state-of-the-art facility that offers the community affordable access to the newest technologies in digital fabrication.
If you can draw a design on a computer, you can also do much more. You can print it in plastic. You can cut it in vinyl. You can cut it in acrylic, or etch it into glass. You can carve it into wood. Equipment includes an array of flexible computer-controlled machines that make products in various materials and sizes:
- A commercial 3D printer to print parts and multi-part assemblies in plastic
- A router to produce wood products
- Digital laser cutters that can cut acrylic, etch glass and burn designs into wood
- A vinyl cutter
Noncredit Courses and Training
The Gudelsky Institute provides training in a variety of specialized technical programs and courses. These aim to introduce or improve workplace skills which could lead to upward mobility. Courses are offered through Montgomery College's noncreditWorkforce Development & Continuing Education (WDCE) Division. Apprenticeship-related instruction programs are offered by various sponsoring organizations, unions, and trade associations.
