VA Education Benefits for Dependents

Students that are dependents of veterans (children and spouses) may qualify for VA education benefits under Chapter 33 or Chapter 35. If you have questions or need assistance at any point, please email us atva@montgomerycollege.edu.

Chapter 33: Transfer of Post 9-11 GI Bill®to Dependents (TEB)

Those wishing to transfer Post 9/11 GI Bill®benefits to their dependents must request to do so through the Department of Defense.

Those wishing to transfer Post-9/11 GI Bill®benefits to their dependents must request to do so through the Department of Defense (DoD). For more information about transfer of education benefits (TEB), including eligibility requirements, visit theTEB-VA website.

How to Apply for Chapter 33
  1. Visit theDoD transferability application websitenew windowto determine if your dependents are eligible to receive the transferred benefits. This website is only available to military members.
  2. If approved, completeVA Form 22-1990e(PDF,Get Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader.-Link opens in new window.)and submit it to the VA. VA Form 22-1990e should only be completed and submitted to VA by the family member after DoD has approved the request for TEB. Do not use VA Form 22-1990e to apply for TEB. The VA will mail you a Certificate of Eligibility.
  3. Complete the MC application, orientation, and registration steps detailed onGetting Started: How to Apply and Register. You do not need to wait to receive your Certificate of Eligibility to begin the Montgomery College application and registration process.
  4. Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility tova@montgomerycollege.eduor to the VA Coordinator on your campus.
  5. Submit aCertification Request for VA Benefits(PDF,Get Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader.-Link opens in new window.)tova@montgomerycollege.eduor to the VA Coordinator on your campus. This allows the College to process your payment from the VA.If you do not submit the Certification Request, your classes will be dropped for nonpayment.
Chapter 35: Survivors & Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA)

MyCAAnew windowis a program approved by the Department of Defense offering military spouses up to $4,000 for education. To qualify, you must be the spouse of an active duty Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine service member or activated Reserve member in pay grades of E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2.Learn more about MyCAA.
