Technology and Study Spaces at the MC Library

The Montgomery College Library and Office of Information Technology are committed to providing quality technology resources to support the MC community. Outlined below are some of these resources and guidelines for their use. In addition to those outlined, each library hasprint kiosksandWi-Fithroughout the library.

Mac and PC Computers

Learn about computer workstations and software available in the library.

Each library has both Mac and PC computers for use. Those affiliated with the College will log in using their M number and last name. Computer sessions last for two hours. Students may log in for three sessions (six hours) per day.

When the session expires, the computer will automatically restart and all files will be removed.Once the computer restarts, there is no way to recover files. Make sure to use an external source to save your work (cloud storage option, such as OneDrive/Google Drive, or a USB).

Macs

Our Macs use OS Sierra and have the following software applications:

Microsoft Office 2019
Pages, Numbers, and Keynote
Photoshop
Dreamweaver
InDesign
Illustrator
Premiere Pro
Adobe Acrobat

PCs

Our PCs use Windows 10 and have the following software applications:

Scanners

Learn about our scanners.

Each library has two kinds of scanners:

  • High-Speed Scanners (Zeta Scanners): ideal for high-volume scanning or scanning pages from books.
  • Flatbed Scanners: ideal for scanning small quantities.

Instructions for use are located near each scanner. Users can print, email, or save their scanned files.

Laptop & Tablet Loans

Learn how you can borrow a laptop or tablet from the library.

For those students who prefer a portable computer, each library loans laptops and tablets for two hours at a time with two renewals allowed (for a total of six hours per day). Laptops and tablets are for in-library use only and students must sign an agreement before borrowing.

The laptops and tablets have the same file removal procedures as the desktops, and files cannot be recovered once the computer shuts down.

Collaborative Workstation

Learn how the collaborative workstations make group work easy.

The Rockville and Takoma Park/Silver Spring library locations have multi-user workstations that allow for collaboration and screen sharing for up to six devices. You can reserve the workstation in advance. See theCollaborative Workstation Guidelinesfor additional information.

Group Study Rooms

Learn about the technology in the group study rooms.

Each group study room has computer connections to a large wall monitor. The rooms can be reserved for a maximum of two hours per day per group. The rooms can be reserved in advance. See theGroup Study Room Guidelinesfor additional information.

Charging Stations

Learn how you can charge your devices at the library.

Each library has charging stations with a variety of plugs to fit different kinds of devices. The library is not responsible for your devices left unattended at a charging station, so stay nearby to protect your devices.
Cables

Learn about the cables you can borrow from the library.

Each library has HDMI and VGA cables, as well as a variety of Apple adapters for connecting your devices. They are available for checkout from the service desk.
