Dave Kube (Lancaster, PA) and Janet Olney (Baltimore, MD) met in 2017 at the Vermont Studio Center, and realized interesting visual and conceptual connections between their work. Rupture is the working title for a collaborative exhibition that explores the potential of disruption to create an opening or surge in their creative practices. Viewing rupture through the lens of experimentation, Kube and Olney break from previous ways of making and allow disruption to be a space for innovation. It allows them to work in a way that feels reflective of a time indicative of continual ruptures in the works; a practice that connects to the collective trauma and renegotiation to which we have all become accustomed. They will be engaging in conversations that inspire connections, shared visions, and adaptations in their individual bodies of work to create a visual dialog in the gallery.

Office of Equity and Inclusion's FIRST FRIDAYS Book Discussion Series
Next Session: Friday, March 3, 2023, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. via Zoom
Our 90-minute conversation will be facilitated by Sharon Wilder, CEIO and led by Dr. Andráe Brown, Professor of Psychology, at Montgomery College. Our book discussion for the Spring 2023 semester will revisit From Equity Talk to Equity Walk by Tia Brown McNair, Estela Mara Bensimon, and Lindsey Malcom-Piqueux.
During our discussion on Friday, March 3 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., we will be review chapter 3 from the book entitled "Using and Communicating Data as a Tool to Advance Equity".
From Equity Talk to Equity Walk offers practical guidance on the design and application of campus change strategies for achieving equitable outcomes. Drawing from campus-based research projects sponsored by the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the Center for Urban Education at the University of Southern California, this invaluable resource provides real-world steps that reinforce primary elements for examining equity in student achievement, while challenging educators to specifically focus on racial equity as a critical lens for institutional and systemic change.
We look forward to seeing you there!
