Health and Safety Measures
Montgomery College students, employees, and visitors are expected to follow these guidelines:
- If you are sick, stay at home. Employees should contact their immediate supervisor to make them aware and to get situational telework approval.

Campus Vaccination and Testing Sites
Ninety-seven percent of MC employees are fully vaccinated. Three percent received medical or religious exceptions and are taking weekly COVID-19 tests.
Effective Monday, March 28, masks are optional for students, faculty, staff, contractors, vendors, and visitors inside College buildings and facilities, with the following important exceptions:
- Masks will continue to be required in all classroom settings, including laboratories, learning centers, and other instructional spaces. Instructors may remove their masks while teaching provided they use good judgment to maintain appropriate distance from students.
- MC encourages individuals to wear a mask while walking through common spaces and hallways or meeting with others in offices or shared spaces.

Assess your health for new symptoms daily before coming to MC (fever, chills, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea). If you have any symptoms (or COVID-19 exposures), talk to your medical provider before coming to campus.
Face Masks FAQ
Why is the College changing its face mask requirement?
Based on new metrics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Montgomery County is currently in the low transmission range. Because of this, Montgomery College will begin to relax our face mask requirement in a phased manner. Combined with the high rate of fully vaccinated faculty, staff, and students, we are confident that we can safely shift to the optional mask requirement. Please note that, if cases begin to rise, we may need to take whatever action is necessary to keep our community safe, including restoring masking requirements.

When does the new requirement take effect?

Can I still wear a mask if I want to?
Yes. Although masks will become optional for many indoor spaces, including libraries, offices, cubicles and meeting areas, we recognize some of us may be more comfortable continuing to wear a mask in spaces where not required, and we fully support you continuing in that fashion.
Will the College still provide free masks?
The College will continue to provide KN95 masks at Public Safety offices, Raptor Central locations, and by orders placed by departments through the Facilities Help Desk. KN95 masks provide effective protection against the spread of the COVID-19 and other viruses. Please respect and support those who choose to wear masks to protect themselves and family members.
Do I need to wear a certain type of mask?
It is important that your mask fits snugly around your nose, mouth, and chin. And, that your mask is attached behind the ears or head with either elastic bands or ties. Gaiters and non-mask bandanas are not acceptable alternatives for masks. The College strongly encourages KN95 masks, KF94 masks, or double masking (with one mask being a surgical mask) for protection against the current predominant Omicron variant.

Report Positive COVID-19 Test Results
Any positive COVID-19 test results, possible exposures, or other concerns must be reported to Public Safety at 240-567-3333 orpublichealth@montgomerycollege.edu. All reports are confidential. Should Montgomery College become aware that a student or employee tests positive for COVID-19 or becomes ill with a suspected case, only those individuals who the College knows or reasonably believes had face-to-face contact or were in close proximity with this person will be notified. Those in the classroom, lab, or other building space shared by this person—along with facilities and public safety workers who may have been in the affected space—will be informed and advised to contact a healthcare provider as soon as possible. Statement of Responsibilities
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Montgomery College has prioritized the health and safety of its students and employees above all else. The College continues to follow all applicable federal, state and county guidelines and has taken steps to implement substantial precautions, including, but not limited to, increased cleaning, use of facial coverings, use of daily COVID-19 self-assessment, contract tracing and isolating/quarantining when required, in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. However, maintaining a safe campus is a shared responsibility. By entering onto any of the College’s campuses or leased spaces, students agree to abide by all applicable College safety guidelines and protocols related to COVID-19. Failure to comply with these safety measures may result in the denial of access to the College’s campuses or leased spaces, denial of services, and/or the denial of participation in any College events, programs or activities, including classroom participation, and may result in a referral to a campus dean of student development for potential disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct.
Despite the safety measures that have been implemented, it is impossible for the College to fully mitigate the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 or any other communicable diseases, and students must assess and accept the risks of illness or injury for themselves. Students understand and agree that by attending in-person classes, engaging in any College services or activities, or otherwise entering onto the College’s campuses or leased spaces, they assume all risks attendant thereto, including the risk of contracting COVID-19 or any other communicable diseases.
As the state of medical knowledge related to COVID-19 continues to evolve, guidelines and protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19 may change. As such, students are responsible for continuing to monitor their College email for any updates, as well as the mainReturn to Campus webpage.
