Welcome

We operate on the Rockville and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses providing students with Windows and Mac workstations for their academic coursework.

The Centers provide user support that helps students develop and expand their digital literacy skills, including MS Office 2019, MS Office 365, Blackboard, ePortfolio, LinkedIn, presentation tools, Zoom, and other common resources for student use to promote safe computing practices.

  • The Digital Learning Centers provide ONLINE instructional support assistance and workshops using Zoom and other learning management tools.
  • The Digital Learning Centers do not provide loaner laptops or any equipment.

  • ONLINE Center Staff will be available for students using the Digital Learning Center's workstations
  • The Center Staff will not print documents for you
  • The Center Staff do not issue “guest logins” or retrieve forgotten passwords

Guidelines for Using the Digital Learning Centers

To ensure that the Centers provide an environment conducive to academic study, the Digital Learning Centers ask our users to adhere to the following guidelines:

♦ Users
  • The Digital Learning Centers will abide the Health and Safety Procedures at Montgomery College.
  • All users must log-on using your MyMC credentials.

  • The Centers are for current students, faculty, and staff only.

  • Food and uncovered drinks are not allowed in the centers.

  • Users must adhere to all aspects of the College’s Student Code of Conduct and the College’s Acceptable Use of Information Technology.
♦ Computers
  • The Center Staff will not print documents for users.
  • Access to the computers is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Center computers print only to the INK printing kiosks located at each center and at various sites on each campus.
  • Computers at the center are configured to prevent permanent storage of files on the computer’s disk drive. Please make sure to save your work to a USB device, or to the College’s internal network or your cloud account.

  • Scanning of books is prohibited. If you need to scan books, please use the scanners in the Library.
♦ Environment
  • Loud or disruptive conversations are not allowed.
  • Headset volumes must be limited in order to not disrupt other users.
  • Remember to take all external media such as USB device or CD/DVD disks before exiting the center.
  • Do not leave personal items unattended. The Staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • In case of emergency, please exit the center immediately. When the emergency is over, staff will allow access into the center and you can pick up where you left off.

The Digital Learning Center at the Rockville campus is located in the Humanities (HU) building on the third floor. We provide an open learning lab and study environment for students in all disciplines. The Digital Learning Center offers both Windows and Mac systems and have a wide variety of software installed. The computer lab is equipped with INK printer.

  • We will offer one-on-one ONLINE assistance using Zoom/Lanschool interactive software to students who need help with the basic operation of academic computer resources provided to all students, such as Windows 10, MS Office 365, Blackboard, ePortfolio, LinkedIn, presentation tools, and Zoom.

  • The Center collaborates with the Academic Success Center (ASC) at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus to offer workshops and individualized tutoring using Zoom.

  • If you wish to receive one-on-one ONLINE assistance, you need to be prepared. You must have your textbook, assignment, any necessary files, storage device, required password(s), and writing instruments. Please note, the Center Staff cannot help you if you do not know your passwords.

The Digital Learning Center at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus is located in the Charlene R. Nunley Student Services Center (ST) on the third floor. We provide an open learning environment for students in all disciplines.

  • We will offer one-on-one ONLINE assistance using Zoom/Lanschool interactive software to students who need help with the basic operation of academic computer resources provided to all students, such as Windows 10, MS Office 365, Blackboard, ePortfolio, LinkedIn, presentation tools, and Zoom.

  • The Digital Learning Center is equipped with number of Microsoft Windows based systems and Apple iMacs which offers a variety of educational software for students to enhance their course-related assignments. Student must be ready to use the INK printer for course assignments; the Center Staff will not print documents for you.
♦ Room ST304 | General Purposes Use
  • Workstations are Dell Precision and Optiflex for general purpose use by enrolled students
  • One-on-one ONLINE assistance with Digital Learning Center Staff is available via Zoom session and Lanschool software for students
  • Capacity limited to 20 users
♦ Room ST304A | Graphic Design, Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Software
  • Workstations are Dell Precision and Apple iMac for graphic design coursework and STEM based courses use by enrolled students
  • All students are welcome to use the workstation if not occupied
  • One-on-one ONLINE assistance with Digital Learning Center Staff, Science Learning Center, and Math Center Staff via Zoom session
  • Walk-in appointments are available. Appointments are highly recommended
  • Capacity limited to 15 users

  • Setting up/editing tables of contents, footnotes, citations and bibliography
  • Setting up/editing document reviews (proofing, language, and tracking changes)
  • Working with document views and windows
  • Downloading and setting up VDI web client used for connecting personal computer to College VDI network
  • Saving files to personal cloud storage and USB devices
  • Printing files to personal printers
  • Accessing Windows applications and features, devices, system, and personalization
  • Accessing and viewing folders and contents layout such icons, details, or list
  • Accessing and modifying devices such as blue tooth and other devices, printers, mouse, or keyboard
  • Changing mouse cursor and accessibility settings
  • Changing Windows display settings such as background, color, themes, fonts, or language
  • Accessing and joining Zoom meetings using laptop or mobile devices
  • Viewing and communicating with other Zoom participants
  • Modifying Zoom controls such as lock meeting, waiting room, sharing your screen, breakout rooms, polls
  • Sending and receiving files and links using Zoom
  • Modifying basic Zoom settings such as backgrounds, names, camera, and sound controls

  • To book an appointment, select the appointment topic, date, available staff, and time.
  • After booking an appointment, a confirmation email from the Digital Learning Center will be automatically sent to your email.
  • The staff will send you an email with a meeting link prior to joining the booked appointment

All presentations and workshop access will require a meeting link sent to you after you register for a workshop.

  • Presentation and workshop registration employ Microsoft Bookings.
  • To register, select a presentation or a workshop topic, date, and time.
  • After registering for a presentation or workshop, a confirmation email from the Digital Learning Center will be automatically sent to your email with a meeting link.
  • Presentation or workshop registration must occur an hour prior to obtain a meeting link.
