Results of AMATYC Student Math League Competition

MC Team Members: Eva Quittman, Jun-dong Han, Youhan Dou, Pablo Garcia Beltran, Adelaide Capion, and Francesco Gallegos. MC team was #1 scoring team in Maryland. MC team was #2 in the Mid-Atlantic Region. MC team was #20 in the nation. All 6 team members were top 20 scorers in Maryland. Thank you coaches: Alexander Bathula, Kevin Johnson, and Stephen Wheatley.

SCUDEM Competition: MC’s differential equations team

SMMART Competition

MC students Pablo Garcia Beltran, Alex Conte, and Francesco Gallegos competed in this 10th annual competition. They placed 5th out of 22 teams from Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. The team was coached by Stephen Wheatley.

Raptor Tank: Two Hillman Entrepreneurs

Anh Nguyen and Aixa Hernandez were contenders in this year’s Raptor Tank Competition. Aixa took second place and received $1,250 to invest in EDWER, an educational website and app meant to help students in high school ESOL classes.

Swarmathon

A team of MC computer science and engineering students traveled to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to be a part of the more advanced physical competition for the first time. The team did not advance to the quarter finals this year but they learned a lot and had some fun too!

Microbiology Agar Art Project

5 microbial art submissions have been accepted as finalists in the American Society of Microbiology’s Agar Art Project. (Faculty Advisor, Natalie Leach Stringer)

Lead365 Conference

Germantown Student Life Office took 4 students to this 3-day conference in Orlando, FL. The Lead365 conference is designed to develop collegiate leaders and professionals to thrive in business, public and non-profit work. Through a variety of sessions focused on civic engagement, volunteerism and social justice, students are empowered and prepared to serve the greater social good 365 days a year.

National Association for Campus Activities Conference

Germantown Student Life Office took 6 students to this week-long conference in Boston, MA. NACA is a leader in higher education for providing the knowledge, ideas and resources to promote student learning through engagement in campus life.

Anthropology Professor Maria Sprehn and two of her students (Rookie Researchers and Renaissance Scholars) presented at two events.

Environmental Studies Major Eli Livezey Wins Garden Club of America National Parks Conservation Scholarship

Montgomery College student Eli Livezey was awarded the Sara Shallenberger Brown Garden Club of America National Parks Conservation Scholarship. The award aims to encourage students to pursue careers in conservation by hands on field training, experience protecting the treasured resources of America’s national parks. The scholarship helps the Student Conservation Association to expand its apprentice crew leader program into America’s National Parks. Congratulations, Eli!
